Adding Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) to a QMed email

Sign into your @qmed.ca email account.
- If you're unable to sign in, send an email to qhsit@queensu.ca from another email address you can access, and we will unlock your account.

Access your Google Account settings:
- In the top right corner of your browser, click the circular icon (this might display a letter or a picture, depending on your account personalization).

Select Manage your Google Account.

Navigate to Security settings:
- Go to the Security tab.

Locate the section titled How you sign into Google and select 2-Step Verification.

Begin the setup: Click Get Started to initiate the 2-Step Verification process.

Choose an authentication method:

Phone number (recommended):
- Enter your phone number in the highlighted box.
- Choose whether you'd like to receive a call or text for authentication.

Alternative methods:
- If you'd prefer to use a Security Key or Google Prompt, click Show more options and follow the on-screen setup instructions.
- If you're unsure about these options, use the phone number method.
- Complete the setup:

Complete the setup:
- Test the authentication method by following the on-screen prompts. Ensure the device you selected is on hand.
- If successful, click TURN ON to activate 2-Step Verification.
- If the setup fails, try again. If you still encounter issues, email qhsit@queensu.ca for assistance.

Set up additional authentication options (optional):

Once 2-Step Verification is active, you can add extra authentication methods, such as:
- Authentication App
- Backup codes (useful when traveling or unable to receive calls or texts)

You can also add:
- Secondary phone numbers
- Recovery email addresses
- To do this, return to the Security tab, select 2-Step Verification, and follow the additional setup instructions.
