Using Zoom on a Shared Computer (QHS IT Supported Rooms)


To start a Zoom meeting scheduled from your own Zoom account using a computer in a shared space (ie.. Small Group Room, Lecture Theatres, Conference rooms ect...), there are two methods to lunch your Zoom meeting.


Method #1:

  1. On the shared computer, open a web browser and navigate to https://queensu.zoom.us/
  2. Login to your Zoom account using your NetID and password
  3. Once logged into Zoom, on the left side of the Zoom page, select "Meetings"
  4. Hover the mouse over the meeting you would like to start and select "Start"
  5. The Zoom application on the shared computer will open and will connect you to your meeting
  6. Once connected, you will be the host of the meeting




Method #2:

This method requires the use of an alternative host when scheduling your Zoom meeting. Once your Zoom meeting has been scheduled, you will required access to the Zoom link or Zoom meeting ID and passcode (written down on paper or saved as a text file on a usb key).


*An alternative host is someone other than yourself who can start the meeting on your behalf.


To add an alternative host to your meeting when scheduling a Zoom meeting, at the bottom of the page you can show more options. Under theses options is a place to enter an alternative host. The assigned alternative host must have a active Queen's NetID with the user logged into Zoom at least once. When adding their NetID to the alternative host section, please make sure to select the confirmation drop down of the person who you wish to add. Once the alternative host has been added and the meeting has been saved, make note of the meeting ID # and passcode or copy the meeting link so it can be transfered to the shared computer.

Manually Input Meeting ID and Passcode:

  1. Open the Zoom application on the shared computer
  2. Select "Join Meeting" (if you do not see "Join Meeting", select "More" at the top of the Zoom window and then select "Home")
  3. Enter you meeting ID and passcode to start your meeting
  4. When connected to the meeting, you will be the host of the meeting



Using a Zoom Link to Start a Meeting:

  1. Copy the Zoom link that you created into the web browser of the shared computer
    1. A confirmation window may be presented asking to lunch the Zoom application on the computer. Please allow.
  2. The Zoom application will open on the shared computer and will connect you to your meeting
  3. Once joined to the meeting, you will be the host of the meeting
