Downloading, Installing, and Setting up Forticlient (VPN)

Downloading Forticlient (VPN) from the Queen’s website:

Go to www.queensu.ca in your browser.
Select the SIGN IN dropdown. This is found in the top righthand corner of the Queen’s website.
Select the MyQueen’sU – SOLUS, MyHR and More option.
Under Productivity Applications > select Software Centre.
This will open a new window where you can view most of the software that Queen’s University offers Staff/Faculty/Students/Departments.
Select the VPN tab and it will bring you to the Forticlient download page:
Select the download button next to which device you have.
If you have a Windows computer- select the 64 Bit option for most laptops, and the 32 bit for tablets. Select the MacOS option for all apple products.

Install Forticlient:

Installing on Mac:
- Once you have downloaded the file (on a mac it will be a .pkg file) you must find it in your downloads or click it from your browser.
- Once you have opened the file, a window will appear. double-click on the Forticlient Sheild icon and it will automatically start the download.
- It may ask you if you are sure you want to open it- you will select open.
- It may also ask for your computer password as permission to install the app, input your computer password to proceed with the download.
Installing on PC:
- Once you have downloaded the file (on a pc it will be a .exe file), you must find it in your downloads or click it from your browser. Double-click this to run the installer.
- It may give you a warning message about downloading this file- if it does, select the More info option and select Run anyway, as this is a safe file.
- It will ask you for permission to run the file on your computer- accept this. If it requires a password/login you may require someone from the IT department to override your system to give you permission to download. Reach out to [email protected] for this.
- Once you have accepted this, it will proceed with the setup

Forticlient Setup:

Forticlient will have an installer that will require you to accept and select Next through before starting the install. You will need to be connected to the internet to complete this download. This process normally takes 5 minutes. It will advise you when the download is complete.
Open Forticlient when it is complete. Now you will need to configure the application. Select Configure VPN.
Fill in the following information in the corresponding fields (pictured on next page)
- Connection Name: Campus VPN
- Description: Campus VPN
- Remote Gateway: campusvpn.queensu.ca
- Leave everything else the way that it is by default.
When signing in, please use your netid to sign-in (not your alias or a personal email- these will not connect you to the VPN).
Your password is the same as your email password. This will ask you for your second authentication device, either the Authenticator app, a text message, or a call- whatever method is set up for your email, it will be the same.
Sign in and the VPN will take a minute to connect and will disappear when it is connected.
