macOS - Uninstalling ESET Anti-Virus
Queen's University now uses Microsoft Defender as the default anti-virus protection. ESET is no longer needed and can be uninstall from computers deployed by Queen's Health Sciences.
*Having Microsoft defender and ESET installed at the same time could cause issues and prevent the computer from accessing the internet.
To uninstall, follow the steps below.
- Locate the ESET app in the "Applications Folder"
- To located the "Applications Folder", click the "Finder" icon on your dock (blue/white happy face)
- In the menu bar (top of the screen), look for "Go"
- Open "Go" and select "Applications"
- Locate ESET app
- Right click on the ESET icon and select "Show Package Contents"
- Navigate to "Content > Helpers > Uninstaller"
- Click on "Uninstaller" to begin the uninstaller and follow the steps on screen
- Once the uninstall is complete, please restart your computer
- After restarting your computer, go to "System Settings > Network > VPN & Filters"
- Under "Filters & Proxies" remove any components that are associated with ESET
- Do not remove "Microsoft Defender"
