Xibo Key Concepts

  • Display – This represents the TV/monitor where content will be displayed. QHS IT takes care of connecting Xibo software with the TV/monitor in your area (this could be from a computer or directly on the TV if it is more recent).
  • Media – This refers to any digital assets that you add to Xibo. Examples include photographs, PDFs, etc. that you will include in your slides/layouts.
  • Layout – In Xiboa layout is like a slide. Layouts can be basic or very sophisticated with multiple layers and animations. You can incorporate widgets provided by Xibo (e.g., a clock) into your layouts.
  • Campaign – A campaign lets you group multiple layouts and schedule them for display all at once (vs. scheduling each individual layout). Within the QHS users we currently have, people have set up one campaign and then tweaked it as needed when content needs to be edited.
  • Scheduling – Scheduling is how you actually tell the display to show the content you’ve created.

Overview of Steps

  • Upload media.
  • Create layouts.
  • Optionally use widgets (e.g., clock) available from Xibo.
  • Publish layouts.
  • Create a campaign (like a folder or container for a group of layouts/slides).
  • Schedule your campaign (this gets it to actually go to the digital display).

Importing an Existing PowerPoint Slide Deck

If you would like to quickly move an existing slide deck into Xibo while you learn how to build new content, you can export existing slides and drop them in Xibo.

Use the Existing Content training for step-by-step instructions on this process.
