QHS IT is pleased to support groups within the faculty who would like to use digital signage. We used a service called Xibo to allow people to manage their own content. At its most basic, working in Xibo can feel very similar to creating PowerPoint slides, although a keen user can make much more sophisticated screens with multiple layers and animations as fits the needs of their group.
The cost per display screen is $100 USD per year, billable back to the requesting group.
Roles and Responsibilities
QHS IT will:
- Provision license for screen and bill back to relevant department
- Install Xibo on existing TV if compatible or install tiny computer linked to TV to host Xibo if needed
- Create user accounts for relevant employees
- Create relevant folders (e.g., per department) in Xibo
- Permission users to the appropriate folders within Xibo
- Link screens and licenses in Xibo
- Manage accounts when departments let us know which staff need to be added/removed
- Provide orientation to QHS staff who will be using Xibo
- Troubleshoot with users if they have trouble with content creation or scheduling a campaign
- Distribute campus-wide communications requests and content where appropriate
Adopting schools/departments will:
- Agree to pay QHS IT annual fees ($100 USD per display)
- Identify staff responsible for Xibo management and provide their names and NetIDs to QHS IT (email qhsit@queensu.ca to request changes to users)
- Update QHS IT of changes to the designated Xibo users
- Manage digital assets for department (e.g., photos, videos, layouts, etc.)
- Create and schedule campaigns to push content to display units
- Update content as requested by department/school
