Working exclusively on one profile in your preferred web browser can create challenges when blending responsibilities from Queen's University with those from the hospital, personal, or other work accounts.
We recommend maintaining separate work profiles as the optimal approach and will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to do so in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari. If your preferred web browser isn't shown in these instructions, or if you experience any issues with these instructions, please let us know by [email protected] or by calling 613-533-6909.
Google Chrome:
Add a new profile
1. On your computer, open Chrome.
2. At the top right, click the Profile icon:
3. Click + Add at the bottom of the drop down.
4. A popup will appear. For adding a Queen's University profile select the Continue without an account option
5. A new web browser will open. Choose a name for this profile that clearly identifies it as your Queen's University profile (e.g., Firstname - Queen's University). You can also select a photo and color scheme for this profile in this window, but these can be added at a later date. It is recommended to use different color scheme for your profiles to easily distinguish which profile you are working in.
6. Now, you will have a clean slate profile. None of your bookmarks or passwords from other profiles will exist in this Queen's University profile and will need to be added manually. This is your opportunity to exclusively use this profile for your Queen's University work. These steps can be followed to create different profiles for any Hospital, personal, or other work.
Switching between profiles:
1. On your computer, open Chrome.
2. At the top right, click the Profile icon
3. Choose the profile you want to switch to.
If you encounter issues with links automatically opening in the wrong profile (for example, signing into Zoom or OneDrive opens in a different profile than the one you need), you should close all profiles except for the one you intend to use. This should allow you to open links in the correct profile without any problems.
