Please ensure your phone extension has been added to the printer by contacting qhsit@queensu.ca or 613-533-6909. The department ID is added so that not everyone can print colour due to the high costs associated with it.
Adding Printer
- You will need to download and install the Canon printer software to your Mac: https://en.canon-cna.com/support/business/products/office-printers/imagerunner/advance-dx/imagerunner-advance-dx-c5850i.html
- The driver you need to download is the UFRII software driver
- Once installed open your Mac system settings and use the search bar to find 'Printers & Scanners' or scroll down in settings to find that section
- Click the Add Printer button
- Choose to add by IP
- Enter address: 10.98.52.10 (you will need to be on-campus or connected to the campus VPN to connect)
- Protocol should be Line Printer Daemon and Queue leave empty
- Change Name to something you will recognise (eg. QHS-SON-1F or SON Printer)
- For the 'Use:' section click the drop-down and click 'select software'
- in filter type 'canon ir-adv c5850' and select the corresponding choice
- Click OK
Setting up Department ID
- Click on the printer name you just added (eg. QHS-SON-1F)
- Click the 'options and supplies' button
- Click the Options section at the top
- Click the Printer Information button at the top (this will collect information from the printer)
- Turn on Department ID Management toggle and click OK
- Click the 'options and supplies' button again and select the Utility tab at the top
- Click the Open Printer Utility button
- Switch User Management from Off to Department ID Management
- Enter your phone extension into the Department ID field (leave the PIN field empty)
- You can click verify to test if your extension is correct and matched what is saved in the printer
- Click Save Settings at the bottom
- RESTART YOUR COMPUTER
